Artist Statement
If I am in a political or immigrant advocacy environment, I introduce myself as an “artist.” If I am in an art related environment, I introduce myself as “photographer.” If I am in the community, and I am explaining to folks what I do, I say that I am a “visual story teller.” How do I define myself?
I live at the crossroads of art, politics and ordinary everyday life. I am a witness as much as a character. My own experience of living in a bi-lingual and bi-cultural world empowers me to carry a message between two worlds.
That is where my art practice resides. That is my podium, my inflammatory speech, my message of peace, my message of enough is enough.
I am a witness of my time. And that is how I define myself.
